Is it possible to get a refund on a Savings Bond issued in error?

I purchased some Savings Bonds for a person I intended to employ, but it didn’t happen. How can I redeem these bonds?

The Savings Bonds folks have a form for this called FA 400 - Request for Reissue or Refund of Purchase Price Due to Error in Issue or in Registration of United States Savings Bonds.
However, this form isn’t available by download. You have to contact them using a form on their website, explain the problem, and if the bond is refundable they will fax a copy of the form to you.
FDIC Insured Certificates of Deposit can pay 1 or 2% more than savings bonds when held for a similar length of time. See top CD Rates Below:
