I assume it's possible to transfer Series EE Savings Bonds to either Series I bonds or Treasury securites. If so, is it possible to avoid taxes on the accured interest by doing that transaction?

The Treasury reported this week that Series I Savings Bond investments in July totalled $297.1 million, about 67% of the month's total Savings Bond investments of $444.8 million.

We need some advice on cashing in Series I bonds. We are purchasing a new house and we need some cash. We have approximately $30,000.00 in I bonds and we would like to cash in about $8,000.00.
